Thanked: 1262Travel Strapping....
O.k. I am a big procrastinator, it is a problem.
So... I am flying out this tuesday and will be gone for a week.
I just realized I do not have a strap suitable for travel. Any ideas? I'm not sure what the newspaper situation in the dominican is and my palm is not very large...
I'm tempted to just buy one of these to use, i really dont like using my de...

I went away for the weekend and used an electric, I know, I know, first off, it was a gift, and I only used it maybe 5 x. I really didn't feel like packing up all that gear. I do have a few travel strops and if you really wanted to, you could pack a regular strop, it'll go on any doorknob...

I've taken my normal hanging strop on my travels and they will be fine as long as you dont fold them. They dont take up much room in a bag.

Thanked: 1587If all you want is a strap, any strap will do. Your wife's handbag strap, the straps on her shoes, your watch strap, an octopus strap. I mean, straps abound. Here a strap, there a strap, everywhere a strap strap.
However, if you intend to use the strap to strop, then you'll probably want a strop.

First off: thanks for making my day Jimbo
Second: I have some car seatbelt on the way, not that it helps you for now.
Third: Take a trip to the junkyard nearest you and cut off a nice length of seatbelt for yourself. The tube woven stuff, none of that melted edges business.

Thanked: 199You could always get a piece of balsa and throw it in your bag on your trip.
The balsa strop I made is probably about 8-10" long and all I did was contact cement a 1.5" wide piece of balsa onto a paint stir (free at Lowe's or Home Depot, just ask em.)
Got the balsa at a hobby/craft store for like, $2. The only thing I had to do was cut off the piece of balsa the size I want, but it's so soft, you can do it with a pocket knife easily. My piece of balsa was 3" wide, so i just marked it with a ruler and pencil and cut it off, cemented it to the stir, lightly sanded it flat, and pasted it with CrOx.
It works great, it's easy AND cheap to make, and easily carried on trips. Not to mention, if it gets lost, you only lost ~$0.50 worth of materials
*EDIT* Some hobby stores like Michaels, etc. carry pieces of leather as well. You could always pick up a piece and throw it in your bag, or glue it to the balsa instead of pasting it. Might not be real thick or great, but it should workLast edited by avatar1999; 11-12-2009 at 08:02 PM.
