Do the little razors start out as Shavettes and then grow into real straights?

As long as you hone your razors on a regular basis , you don't have to worry about them getting too big .

You need to be concerned about this. I had a 4/8s and the next thing I knew it was a 6/8s and then an 8/8s and then it got so big I had to put it in the shed out back. Then it disappeared. The last I heard it was making it's way to Tokyo to cut down the city.

I think of stropping as 'honing' the razor on a 100,000K stone- it polishes up the edge, poss. removing any micro-rust that may have sprouted.

Thanked: 30Then we know what book we will never see that pun in! hardy hard har har. Best necro-post ever.
As for the crystalline structure, they need food to grow. like making rock candy, the first sugar crystal sticks to sting, and the other stick to it, and since the crystals line up due to various reasons, the same one that creates the shape of the first one, they all line up to try and slowly create a huge crystal.
So to grow crystals on the razors edge, you would need to submerge in a solution with the proper environment for the crystals to bond to the other crystals, a vat of molten steel would work. So there you go, want to form enough crystals to add to the edge of the razor, just let it soak in a nice hot-tub full of molten steel for the night. After the long and relaxing rest (hot tubs really do work wonders for both us and our single edged friends) I guarantee you there will enough new crystals to recover the edge!
