    Default My first Neil Miller

Well, here's my first Neil Miller strop.

It's his starter strop and he was good enough to send me a length of seconds grade cotton with it.

Straight to the sail makers, stitched the cotton both ends and stuck an eyelet in the same place as the leather.

The leather knot that came with the strop removed and used as a handle of sorts for the canvas. I think it looks decent!

Small carabiner to put through the eyelets and some parachute cord to make a noose either side.

It'll do till I've got the money to get one of his better ones

Excellent choice! I would rather have a starter strop from Neil than many makers primary offerings. Enjoy.

He's a good sort is Neil, and I keep telling myself I must get one of his higher end strops they really are something special to look at and they have the performance to match.

I'm loving it. Just stropped 4 razors for the sake of it. I've got a lot more width than I'm used to as well as length, ooooer

    Nice resistance too.

If I might be so bold as to suggest ....... take it back to your sailmaker friend and have him run some stiching straight across on the end just an inch or so behind the hole for the hanger. I'm thinking that pulling on the grommet might tend to cause cupping, at least towards that end, and stiching going across will prevent that by preventing the pull from distorting the leather/cotton below the grommet.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

It was a concern but doesn't appear to have happened. I was thinking along the same lines but having the canvas stitched to the leather at the top. I disregarded that one as when held together at the end and tensioned the hanging strop causes the other to twist.
