    Hi,

A few days later but i'm back.

It was hery hard to find one piece without any bad spots on the leather 30cm x 60cm, but i found one and three more who will need some work with a 1500 and 2500 sandpapper.

I made a very simple paddle/bench strop (i think is more bench than paddle even if i hold it on my hand). I just glue it on a piece of balsa and that's it. This one i'll use with CBN 0.50 after my naniwa 12k and for touch ups.

Even after CBN dried out it was like that. Have i made something wrong? must i prepare the leather before apply CBN in emulsion form?

    See you... Flávio.

CBN works best wet, cloth, cotton or poly canvas, felt or paper Tyvek, Pellon or nylon, poly strapping work very well with CBN.

Make sure to shake the CBN well prior to spraying.

I would wipe it off with WD40 and paste when dry with a good Chrome Oxide then make a new strop for CBN. I find the .25 CBN to be good maintenance grit for razors, .50 can be aggressive to shaving off of.

Once dry on the strop, mist with distilled water 3-4 sprits prior to stropping.

You want a strop substrate that will dry out between stropping.

    Thanks for the explanation.

I have some felt here. How do i apply the CBN emulsion on felt? (i don't have the spray)

I made a test shaving after CBN 0.50 and YES it was sharp but very aggressive. I have also the 0.25 and i'll give a try later.

The best strop I have owned was one I made of an old leather belt I got at K-Mart many years ago. I wore the belt for 4 or 5 years & decided I needed a strop for the knives I was making. Got a chrome oxide stick & treated half the belt & left the rest the way it was. You all worry to much. When we moved last time I was flat on my back from spinal fusion so I didn't get to pack anything & someone threw away my belt-strop. Now I use a vintage Koken with English horse hide & Scotch linen. Great strop after a little work but I miss my old belt!

I have made a thinned solution by filling a 2 oz. spray bottle, one quarter with CBN and the rest with distilled water. Shake well and mist, while moving up and down the strop, 4-5 sprits from 4-6 inches, to get good even coverage.

Let dry overnight then mist with distilled water and strop.
