Come on, guys! Everyone seems pretty sensitive. I thought we were having a bit of fun here!
"Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."
I rest my case.

Neil uses too many arcane words, like "arcane".
"We'll talk, if you like. I'll tell you right out, I am a man who likes talking to a man who likes to talk."

If I may, let's all back off for a while before this starts down the road to perdition again.
The only question I will ask at this time is, "Would I like to come up against myself in a dark alley?""The sharpening stones from time to time provide officers with gasoline."

Thanked: 2It's funny how forums invariable degenerate, here and there, into upset feelings. I am usually resigned to believe it is the sad sacrifice of the age that so much communication between people is non-verbal and therefore just doesn't translate into text. The best of writers struggle to have their heartfelt intention to be understood where the rise of an eyebrow or deepened laugh-line would be all the expression any two reasonable people would need. Considering how few people would actually be operating a strop due to their poverty as opposed to being blessed with enough time and funds to pursue a wonderful hobby, I think it's safe to say we are here to enjoy ourselves. I only wish I could easily find fellas at a nearby bar or some such place and have a fun talk and share our tid-bits about wet shaving; get the face-to-face....alas. That said we have a wonder of the age in the communication over electrical wires and waves. I try to remember to only type things that I would say to a man's face. I grew up around far too many men who would have thought the proper use of a strop was to apply it with force to my face should I speak discourteously to them. They would not have cared how well broken in it was. I for my part, thought the banter was funny. I try not to take myself that seriously though. Have a fun weekend guys

ColdbyDesign, if you look on the Local Help list (left side of the Welcome page for a link), you might find someone, or many, near enough to you willing to have a little get together and chew the fat over a drink of any kind about all things wet shaving. I know for a fact that the four listed in California are the types that do that, often.

Thanked: 3164Smartass, asinine, vile, nasty, degenerate - none of those words were used by me. They were used by others about me, yet not one of them gets castigated. If it was me I am sure I would be banned. That's Life, however.
I just used a humorous gag to put across that I don't put any value on what a junior has been told by some old geezer.
I could have been nasty about it, but I chose not to be. I could have been very nasty about it, particularly as my friend gssixgun was corrected (needlessly) by some junior who had not even taken in the full nuance of what Glen was saying - ie take it step-by-step and only do what you have to.
Our precocious friend chose to quote Glens post with an arrogant, crowing "I'm sorry, but you should never need to use Neetsfoot or saddle soap on a strop. Just rub with the palm of your hand...". Doesn't anyone find that odd, quoting someone who knows far more than you do and then saying much the same thing - up to a point (Glen starts of with hand-rubbing, leaving the oil to last on the list) then puts this crazy statement down to some old geezer, does not even say he has found this out by experience.
And Pixelfixed - I see you do understand humour, only a comedian would reply to someones post to tell them that they do not read his posts. Genius. As for your other post, I really think that you should stop looking in the mirror while typing, then you would not be adding the crass 'vile and nasty' statements. Here you go - - that make it better?
I feel a bit picked-on to tell the truth. Slagged off by juniors and crazy old geezers, yet no one can see where the blame lies. Shame.
Neil
PS: We all know that the junior is totally wrong, of course - sometimes oil is necessary.Last edited by Neil Miller; 03-14-2015 at 12:25 PM.

Thanked: 3164I know that you know that I did not mean you!
It is just slang for a man, and is enjoying a bit of a comeback - if you are in the East End (or anywhere that considers itself tied to London) you often hear "Oi, Geezer" called out.
The old slang is a bit 'iffy' now, if you know what I mean, guv. It has evolved in part - as language does. For instance your gregory once meant your neck as in Gregory Peck and people in the pub would say 'get it down your gregory me old china, whereas nowadays it seems to mean a bank cheque, too.
However, I have the ultimate respect for you, Richard - you have a great knowledge base, earned by a lot of experience and not other peoples say-so's plus you are a very nice guy IMHO.
Sincerely,
NeilLast edited by Neil Miller; 03-14-2015 at 03:50 PM.
