Unfortunately, yes. Fortunately you have a free hone from Lynn.

I accidentally touched the faucet or sink bowl with my new Dovo during one of my first shaves and put a little ding in the edge near the toe end. Since I plan on learning to maintain my straights, I bought the Norton 1k, 4k, 8k, and Nanawi SS 12k stones and a DMT plate for lapping.

I decided to slowly try to take out the nick with the 12k. It took me a long time, but I saw able to do it. Hindsight says I should have dropped down to lower grits to go faster, or just try resetting the bevel with the 1k and work up, but I wasn't sure I was ready to try the whole process.

I figured I would try to save it, and if not, send it in for the free hone (also from SRD). I got lucky and I think it is ok. But, through all this I learned a lot, both in honing and in blade care. For example, I lay it on a towel, when lathering, and wipe it off on a wet cloth, during shaving. I keep it away from the faucet and bowl. I also use a scuttle for the lather.

With the DE I used before, I had hot water in the sink to keep my cup of lather warm and to clean the DE during shaving. For me, that was not a good idea for straights. Too easy to bump the edge!
