On the secondaries, you got me there on some of mine.
The waxy stuff they put on some was yucky.(Like my pen! )
Extended boiling in oxyclean and some bleach. Many water changes.
Sadly, the graphics melted-off.
It was a trade-off as I could not stand seeing it and wanted to use it.
One has a perfect green secondary. I will go at this again.

Nice strops! I had not seen the 'New Soft75' before? What does that mean?
So on Yamamoto's old strops. He must have been a character.
I had Arsenico translate what was on the original strop-sock on mine...
He did translate some of it. (Quote Asenico);
I have something interesting for you. Actually only the first front/back part.
It is something mr Yamamoto wrote.
And sound so very japanese!
"Tosa no Kochi no Harimabashi de...
... Shigoto hitosugi ni ikiru. Nintai"
"In Tosa (prefecture), Kochi (city), Harimabashi I go straight in my job. I'll do my best or I will be patient"
So on the back of Tc's strop and mine, I think I see dates.
Tc's Tokyo strop has S. 42.3.23
My Russian strop has S. 41.9.2...
Would this mean Tc's is dated 3/23/42 and mine 2/9/41 ??
That is pretty darn old!

Tom if those dates are right, he was in a country that had just pissed us off, but life went on for him in his profession. Very interesting that it survived and eventually got to us. Tc

That's for sure. I meant to type 9/2/41 on mine.
If this is true, mine is dated a few months before Pearl Harbor and Tc's a few months after.

You guys inspired me to fix up my Scotch Lassie. It had quite a bad crack right in the middle on the front and some cracking on the back.
So I went at it with CA glue + sodium bicarbonate and Micromesh (up to 1200). Slick as butter. It has a tiny lump on the front, but should be okay with some breaking in/wearing down.
I'll have to give it a test run with a shave-ready razor to see if it has some detrimental effect on the edge. Fingers crossed.
Good thing I hadn't cut it up yet with a paddle strop in mind.
Best regards,
Pieter

Glad you didn't cut it up, let's see a picture, I once seen one that was fairly new and I passed on it because of price, now I wish I had bought it, my new passion in this sport is shave brushes and vintage shell in new shape. Tc

One thing i would like to add is for rehabind a stiff old strop that worked well is a five inch round stock phillips screwdriver of good quality that has been heat treated, then finished to a 400 wet/dry sandpaper (the screwdriver not the strop)and for final buff with a horse hair brush(on the strop). Hope this helps someone.I use a English horse hair that does a very nice job.
