yes if given the choice between tony miller or Torolf, id go scrupleworks myself, great strops and the best linen of all the strop makers, but he didnt ask about him just miller or that razor emporium place that will never see my money

I just bought a Tony Miller myself. I posted some pics in a new thread before seeing this. (And having read this thread, I realize now many are probably thinking, "yeah, we already know about these strops!")

But if you wanted to try the suggestion made earlier in this thread, to try a bench strop, sharpeningsupplies.com has a 12"x3" paddle strop on sale. But both sides are leather, smooth and suede. Don't know if anyone makes a leather paddle strop with a cotton or linen side.

They're in a class of their own. Most members are very enthusiastic but lately Tristan bought a poor quality one. A decent vendor should be able to sell you a good one.

I recently bought another Kanayama, from another vendor this time, that showed no issues and is perfectly fine. Still the best strops around.

If you're in Europe, I would highly suggest you to NOT order from japanesenaturalstones.com since he shipped me damaged goods and did NOT reply to any of my emails trying to get in touch with him.
He fully knowingly ignored me after I sent him pictures and an explanation of the issues with the strop. He avoided all responsibility and his customer service is worth as much as his word, nothing.
He didn't care about his customer or the product he delivered, he took the money and run.
He / Maxim ended up costing me 470 EUR / 560 USD. I'm still pissed about it.

Other than that, I still think the Kanayamas are the best strops around. I bought my latest one from a shop in France, and am very happy with my purchase.

A whipped dog starter strap is a great way to go. Newbies are going to nick it (experienced guys do it too, some times).
I have an Illinois 127 bought when I returned to straight shaving some years ago, It required preparation with ointment and bottle rolling but it became a decent strop and I still use it. Tony Miller strops are first rate... if you get any first rate strops, practice on the fabric. If you mess up you wreck the edge but you don't wreck the strop. My prettiest strop is a Bison Horse... Prettiest leather I've ever seen. I often lay my hanging stops on my dresser...it's a convenient height for me and tension is not an issue. Just me.
    carry on
