Interesting. Would you mind submitting a review for the latter? Because we don't seem to have any yet.

As far as the Illinois strops are concerned, I find them vastly inferior to both Tony's and SRD's in terms of craftsmanship and overall quality. Or, put bluntly, the USD 30 you might save won't pay off in the end. SRD offers strops with exchangeable components, so that even nicking one piece of leather (or other component) won't render the strop useless. Unless you go down the "considerably more expensive, but I want that type of leather, and am sure I won't nick that strop" route (Old Traditional, Kanayama), SRD's strops are hard to beat overall (availability, versatility, price). Very hard, in fact.

Yessir, pure junk you have there. Send it my way and I can dispose of it properly.

Seriously...I have NOOO idea what you have. It SOUNDS like it is a Vintage strop. Which, can be very good strops. I have one. I heart is greatly. The canvas can be cleaned and the entire strop reconditioned and ready for use. You may be surprised at how pretty and useful you can get that thing. Post some pics, these guys will help you get it up to par if it is doable.

Better advice has been given here than I'm qualified to give. I only know that Tony is a fine gentleman to deal with and his strops, even the most basic, are of excellent handmade quality; at some point you really should have one, in my opinion.

The Dovo Russian Leather (with Linen backing) is a wonderful, classic strop. (And I can recommend getting it from thesuperiorshave.com.) The leather is truly beautiful with excellent results, as is the linen - and the padded leather handle a nice touch. Some think the Dovo Russian leather makes a better edge than even the beautiful craftsmanship of the Tony Miller and SRD strops.
