Thanked: 530If I had a camera, I could do videos... Although I'm not sure you /hear/ draw... I could conceivably use my webcam, if I can get it positioned right... I'll work on that...

I think you're right, the sound won't tell us more about the draw than a picture about the feel of the leather (even though it is always nice to look at pics...).

Thanks for the info!
I've got the 3" SRD black latigo with webbed fabric at the moment. I was umming and ahhing about getting a Premium I with the cotton herringbone weave, just to compliment what I've got already.
I really love that black latigo strop. Well made, great leather and great edges as well! I was just wondering whether I could get that extra tweak from another strop.
It sounds like, from what you were saying, that the Premium I would be a good addition as a finishing strop?
Then again, I like draw, so maybe the IV is a better bet?Last edited by Stubear; 02-11-2010 at 03:21 PM.

Thanked: 530If you already have the Black Latigo -which I love, mind you, I just prefer my Bridle - And it has Webbed Fabric, I would say, yes, Get a Premium I with Herringbone cotton.
Then, -at least for me- make you pre-shave strop this pattern: 30 on Herringbone, 40 on Webbed Fabric, 50 On Latigo, 50 on Premium I... The way I look at it is that Herringbone (like linen) is more abrasive, so those 30 laps clean the corrosion off of the edge, Webbed fabric smooths the edge out after the microabrasive cleaning, then The latigo aligns the edge just right, and the premium I polishes the edge to that perfect finish.
Should give you some amazing results.
Short answer: Yes, Premium I with Herringbone Weave Cotton

Thanked: 530And, Ockham, I can work on making a Video... If for nothing else than to show my stropping technique.. I think I do it a little different from most.. My Strop rotation is more Obsessive Compulsive, and My hold on the strop is different... Less tension, a little more pressure....
I'll work on it, and see if anything works out

The modular paddle looks really nice. I think I prefer a hanging strop though. I have started to put a little slack (very little deflection) on the strop with no pressure on the blade and my edges are sharper than ever.
So, from my minimalist point of view, the Bridle will replace my latigo and synthetic strops and I will be done with strops for the rest of my life... (if only it can be true... )

Thanked: 530If I were you, I wouldn't replace the Latigo unless you had problems with it, I'd go with the Premium I to compliment the Latigo you already have.
Unless the Latigo is nicked, or something, then, yes, Bridle-HOOOOOOO!
I lov emy bridle :P

The latigo strop is the basic model from TM without a second component (he doesn't offer it anymore). It was my first so I've nicked it a little (more cosmetic than anything else though). Then I bought his synthetic strop. It's a good strop for hollow ground blades but way to sticky for my taste with wedge or near wedge blades. After more than a year of straight shaving, I deserve a Bridle (and I would like to keep my setup as minimal as possible... the key word here is "possible" ).

Thanked: 530Videos... I tried
So, I'm not sure how to put videos in a post -If this doesn't work, I'll try putting it on youtube-
Anyways, My webcam's kinda bad, I'm terrible on camera, and just got out of bed to do this... Bearing in mind this is my first attempt to make a video, ever, and the lack of decent supplies, Here's what I managed.
Also, these are only for the Latigo, Horsehide and Bridle (Premium IV)
You will notice, the latigo is loud and sounds somewhat dry, it always sounds like that, It has very stable, somewhat High draw.
The horsehide is very quiet, hear how soft it sounds? that's how soft the draw is. These things take some real breaking in.
The bridle, ah, if only the sound reflected how wonderful the draw on this feels. It's very velvety and smooth, but a nice, stout draw. It's just a wonderful strop.
If these go well, I'll also do one for the Premium I once I get it -a few weeks maybe?-
EDIT: I cannot upload videos to posts. My bad. TO YOUTUBE!
Here are the videos, again, Sorry for the quality, however the audio went well, so it should give a good idea:
