Raymond Chandler: oh, yes, the creator of the private eye Philip Marlow. You'll catch yourself reciting lines from him while soaring with your straight razor shave.

Sorry to hear of your strop mishap. Sounds like your in the market for a leather replacement on your strop.

Oh yes!!! Raymond Chandler novels--The Big Sleep, The Lady in the Lake--are a must read.

Then there are the Hollywood adaptations of those novels with Humphrey Bogart in the starring role. Chandler also worked as a Hollywood scriptwriter, co-authoring the screenplay of "Double Indeminty" with Billy Wilder.

    Great reading, great movie watching.

It's definately not fun to knick a strop. I recently purchased an SRD Bridle, and not two days after having it did I place a small knick at the top. Not enough to change the action in any way, but just enought to change the colour of the leather from dark brown. At the time, profanity ensued. But as of late, it serves every single morning as a reminder to take a deep breath and slow down, have a sip of coffee, and think about what I'm about to do.

    A silver lining.

Still...sorry to hear about the knick...that sucks.

Especially since I mostly strop on vintage strops and they can't be replaced.
Indeed. I also only use antique strops. I always take it slow (and attentively) on them.

Great post, I couldn't help but let out a chuckle.

I'm still using my Tony Miller 4-sided paddle strop I bought when I started using a SR almost 2 years ago and so far no nicks. I just don't know how somebody could carelessly nick their strop.....

It's best not to even think about it.
