This was a most interesting thread and supports Lynn's assertion on video from the 2009 conference that .5 micron diamond spray on felt may be a good alternative to the same on leather. Upon going to the SRD sight, however, I either couldn't find this product or it was backordered. I've sent SRD an inquiry as to the status and I'm waiting to hear back.
I'll say it once again i think this is one of the best designs around and the price is very fair for what you get. the pr 1 is a great piece of leather. i'd love the hanging strop in this leather. the diamond spray works fantastic on felt on the crox is exallant on rough leather. what more would you need apart from a hone , also just great for traveling with .
I don't know if i missed it before but SRD now has horse hide pads for the modular Paddle strop. I had to get one.
Just heard from Don. He reports they should be back up next week.
I now have this stop and got to say I love it. I have the two felt pads with .5 and .25 diamond spray. I like to use it after my shave as I just think the rough leather cleans up the blade from any real small residue due to the way it feels when stropping. I have no proof it does this just a thought in my head. And the smooth leather feels nice like butter as others have said. I noticed the felt pads appear to be back ordered as well.
This is a great design and would recommend this to anyone.

I noticed the other day that the leather on one of my pads is pulling away from the magnetic material on the back. I had inadvertently left it on the paddle for a few days, and I think the humidity here may be messing with it (Is that possible?). What kind(s) of glue would you recommend for sticking them back together and is there any special technique I should use?
I actually took one of my cut pads pulled it off and glued a piece of horsehide leather to it. You can first try putting some weight on it if not get some contact cement from Tandy. I made several horsehide bench strops using the contact cement on read oak. I do however use the SRP everyday as my strop. Be careful with the contact cement,it gets everywhere. I taped off exposed areas of my paddle and the stropping area of the pad.

They might be sold out for now. I couldn't find the pads last week and now they are back on. Give them a call.
