Default What is your favorite leather material?

As far as strops are concerned, what is your favorite leather material and why? (e.g. horse, cow, deer, 'roo, etc.)

I have a 3" German strop made by DOVO. I'm pretty sure it's either cow or deer.

How WEIRD! I was just getting on the strop forum to make a poll of this exact same thread!

I would say that, for now, my favorite day-to-day strop is SRD Premium IV (English Bridle) because it is extremely reliable, always performs exceptionally.. However, lately I've been using my Horsehide from Tony Miller more than any other, becasue I love the light draw and the results it provides...

I can't wait till SRD starts stocking Horsehide, then I know what my favorite strop will be!

Also love the Premium I from SRD, and plan on getting and loving the Premium II... Latigo and the Premium III are too heavy on the draw for me.

Thanks! I just like how fast I can get going on horsehide, without any tug on the razor... I hate when a strop feels like it's going to pull the razor out of my hand... Worries me.

    Rocky,

I really like the black Mexican latigo that Mr Neil Miller uses for his strops.

It has a lovely finish and just the right level of draw for me.

I also like his tallow tanned cow-hide, which I tend to use after the latigo.

    Have fun !

    Best regards

    Russ

Amongst my strops I have a Neil Miller, English bride and tallow tan. I prefer the bridle, but go to the tallow tan afterwards. I like them complimentarily, I wouldn't say I had a favourite, but it definately aint linen! Im waiting on a cordovan shell strop, anyone know what thats like?

I always liked horse but the SRD Premium 1 is bovine IIRC and has about a perfect draw for me. Not too much or too little. Like Goldilocks, it is just right.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Totally agree with Jimmy here, The SRD 1 rocks! By far, my favorite strop.

(Please, No PM's asking me if I've tried the Kanayama)
