Best way to use diamond spray
I have never really used a pasted strop much, but want to try some diamond spray.
What are some of your favorite ways of using this.
I have a few different options: Hard felt, seatbelt material, denim, Glass, Lapping film that comes with the hand america modular bench strop (thanks Keith), balsa, and leather that I can use for a substrate for the Diamond spray.
Looking for suggestions on which way to go before I start spraying everything I see down with diamond spray. Also should I be using a dust mask with this stuff?

From what I hear, the hard-pressed felt is perfect for sprays. What I'm curious about is how much to apply.

Thanked: 4942I like both the Diamond Sprays and CrOx sprays on the hard felt the best. The results are very dependable. I just spray the felt up and down a couple times and let the spray dry over night. Once it's ready to go, I only use 10 X strokes and then 50-60 strokes on leather. You don't want to saturate the felt with either of these sprays.
Have fun,
Lynn

Would you recommend the .25 or .50 diamond spray for finishing a honing? I just wonder if using the .25 is worth it, or if the .50 is more than enough.

I heard felt too
Best to use carefully
.50 or .25 is a taste thing but .25 may be too much of a good thing IMHO

I also prefer the diamond spray on felt to balsa or leather or linen. (I even tried it on a Chinese 12K and on some very smooth rubbery plastic. But, those were more "mad scientist" experiments that I don't mention to too many people.)

+1 to the Hard Felt. I spray two very light coats from about 8 inches or so...
Let each one dry overnight, then it's good to go...Like Lynn said, about 10 lapps is all you need, and you'll get the imfamous Velvet Squegee razor edge....We have assumed control !

Looks like felt is the way to go.
Next question, is it beneficial to go up in grit on my shapton pros, eg, up to the 12/15K or will the end product be similar if I stop at the 8K shapton pro then go to the Diamond paste?

superbleu, goaT,
+1 to the advice above.
If you use too much spray (as I did), the hard pressed felt will swell.
Mine dried with a hump in the middle of the strop (it was a paddle strop) - this did some evil things to my razors edge
Luckily, advice was posted on SRP that you could use a steam iron to flatten 'swollen' pressed felt strops - this worked a treat !
Have fun !
Best regards
Russ
