Kanayama Strop Canvas/Cardboard
I am happy to report that I am the proud new owner of a Kanayama 50000. SAD was one thing which never bit me and I have been more than pleased with my SRD IV, but the fact that these are handmade in Japan by a master craftsman and sold by one of the best vendors I have dealt with was enough to push me over the edge. I swear that I order stuff from JimR and it arrives from Japan quicker than stuff from the next state over.
On to the strop. I love the feel of the leather, but I am slightly concerned about the canvas side. It is very rough/thick/hard! My previous strops all had a fabric component that was relatively soft with some give. The Kanayama canvas feels almost like stropping on balsa wood.
I plan on using the Kanayama as my daily strop (well, alternating with the SRD), so for those of you that use a Kanayama, please tell me that I have nothing to worry about! Tell me that this hard canvas like material is amazing and helps refine the edge on your razors.

You may get differing opinions but I found mine pretty destructive on fresh honed edges.
I broke mine in using a file card ie a steel wire brush for cleaning files which picked out the fibres & transformed it into a softer, razor friendly tool. I like it a lot now.The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

As far as i know, you are the only one to use a 50000 as a dailey stropper. Every one else is a scared. They treat them like a corvette ( take it out, clean it, drive it around the block, then put it back under the car cover for another month). Scratch your Vett or nick your strop, wont happen if you dont use it!!! What are they doing, (saving it for the next guy).Good for you ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Took me over a year to begin to use my 90,000 for fear of nicking it. I've been using it now off and on and it is truly a great strop. Hard to explain, I don't know what he does to that horsehide but it is unlike any strop I've ever used. The linen is a bit stiff at first but very like many of the linens on my vintage strops.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Update!
Okay, so I gave my Filarmonica 12 a little touch up on the Nakayama Asagi last night. Max honed this one about 4 months ago and it has not seen a stone since. Amazing.
Anyway, stropped 30 on the canvas followed by about 60 on the leather on the Kanayama prior to my shave.
I noticed nothing out of the ordinary with the edge. If anything, it felt much keener and more comfortable than ever. Definitely no ill effects from this crazy canvas.
