I found mine at the local grocery store by the shoe polish. I don't remember how much it cost, so it must have been reasonable. Also, a little of that stuff goes a long way, so I think that one bottle may about be a lifetime supply.

I have also been looking for locally supplied Neatsfoot Oil in the Northern Virginia/DC area and have had no luck. The nearest Tractor Supply Co. is about a 45 min drive. I found it on the Sears website, but when I went to Sears, it turned out to be only available online. Any ideas? Also, do Lexol and Neatsfoot provide the same results?

It used to be that you could find neatsfoot just about anywhere that sold leather products, shoe store always had it. Anymore you have to look for the stuff. If you have a Tandy leather store, they should have it, if not try the boot, saddle type places they should have it as well.

Funny, I have maybe 20+ strops. Kanayama, SRD, Tony Miller, Kenrup, Solingen, Dubl Duck (vintage) etc... I've never once applied neetsfoot oil to any of them. I never had the need. Once in a while, I rub them with the palm of my hand. I did buy an old ebay special that needed some work. I cleaned it with Saddle soap, then applied neetsfoot, only because the leather was dry. To each his own. but tbh, applying oil isn't really needed. More or Less draw on a strop doesn't seem to make much difference in the end product imho. Depending on the strop, it could help break it in, like we did with Basball gloves when I was kid, Did the same with ice skates....(I grew up in the North)

Lately, I've been using a custom Tony Miller Horsehide, One of the last ones he made.
It's great, and has little or or no draw.

    Enjoy...

Has anyone ever tried From's strop dressing? I was wondering how that might compare.

Lexol will darken it more than neatsfoot. I've used it, and my strops never screamed at me. They ARE different, but I used them interchangeably since I didn't care about the color.

I've learned more about neatsfoot, neatsfoots compound, and lexol since then...and to be honest I don't know what I'll use next time I need to soften a strop up. They are different, but geeez...your eye's start going crossed after awhile. Seems like one of those things that gets to point where you throw your hands up and as you march over and use whatever is closest at hand.

Neatsfoot is an oil, and Lexol does carry their version of neatsfoot, and conditioning compound, and cleaner, and mink oil, and... Lexol is a brand name, and a good quality product. I get mine at the local Army Surpus store.

Any vendor's neatsfoot can 'add color' to the leather, it's part of the pieces personality.
I wonder why people don't mention Saddle Soap more often, they talk about using shave cream/soap lather...
