Thanked: 2027Actually you can make the leather Extreamly taught so flatness is not an issue.
Had a piece of Bullhide shell laying around so I made another,stropping surface is about 14 long X 3in.
.145 thick but very pliable,couple others in the works.

Would it be a good idea to use a tap and die set to open threads on the tensioner plate and the main rod? Thanks.

Thanked: 2027The tensioner plate has to have threads of some sort,If using a metal plate this is no problem,that is how most you can buy are made,a nut with the same threads is just welded in place and the main adjusting rod screws thru it.In my case using hardwood,I counterbored a hole and inserted a 1 in, long coupling nut,same principal.
