The best way to apply crox to wool felt is in liquid form. It's sold on SRD. Just spray, let it dry overnight, and repeat. Same goes for Diamond spray and CBN.

    dzacca,

I apply the CrOx to the felt using a soft large make up brush; dip the tip of the brush in the CrOx, and gently brush the felt. This is definitely best done in good ventilation and wear a dust mask as you do not want to breath in the CrOx powder !!

As others have said, you only need a light dusting

    Have fun !

    Best regards

    Russ

    Terasol,

You can even out the crayon type CrOx applications with a peice of kitchen paper moistened with lighter fuel (I use Ronson).

IIRC Mastro Livi uses a rag wetted with gasoline

    Have fun !

    Best regards

I don't really have lighter fluid on hand, what would you think about isopropyl alcohol instead? Here's hoping...

    Terasol,

Just tried some isopropyl alcohol with the Livi CrOx crayon, and it seems to disperse it well

Use the alcohol sparingly on the cloth.

Have fun & a Happy New Year !

    Best regards

I'm trying the alcohol right now, it seems to be spreading it well but there's still a few streaks of CrOx that's pretty thick. I've been reading other strop maintenance posts and think I might scotch brite my "practice" strop and retry. In the meantime I've just ordered a spray bottle of .5 micron stuff and it should be here in two weeks or so.

I'll post after pics of my smaller strop after it's seen a bit more TLC.

I use the SRP CrOx spray. It's CrOx powder in a liquid that looks like water. Works well and you don't have to deal with pastes.

Water's fine, you don't need Alcohol or Lighter fluid. The Crox will settle in the bottom of the bottle after a while, just shake before use. Same goes for Diamond spray.

Here's an after picture. I used a washcloth lightly sprinkled with isopropyl alcohol to spread the CrOx crayon around my strop. It works much better than before, I will probably continue trying to improve it and get a nice, very even coat across.

As you work it in overtime it won't really matter. A mentor took a pea size of Cr ox and pea size of olive oil and rubbed it in by hand then took the razor spine and worked it in as much as possible. Work it in, keep the strop covered so it won't attract dust and it will last you many years since you only use it as touch up. Make sure you don't cross contaminate, clean the razor between strops just with a good wipe down.
