Wapi from Ken at Rup razor.
My shaves have gotten better lately with less tugging. I may be stropping better or I am just figuring out the shave process more and more. Still tugs a little under my chin but not nearly as bad as before.

Cool. You'll be a professional in no time.
On what you mentioned -- you always see videos of people stropping like madmen, whipping the razor up and down the leather like they're trying to beat an egg or something. At that speed, you're only apt to screw up your edge. The possibility of making a mistake is more likely the faster you go, especially when you consider how delicate the edge is and how precise a stroke has to be to keep it perfectly flat on the leather.
I approach my stropping much like my honing. When I'm using the stone, I don't feel the need to rush it, so naturally I feel the same about edge refinement on the strop, which is much further along in the process. Arguably, that's when you should be the most careful, since mucking up your edge at that point means going all the way back to square one at the hone.
I try to make each stroke on the strop perfect, because I've already worked hard to ensure my edge is. Try to go at a slow to medium pace, at best.

That's the way I'm trying to strop, medium slow and light, seems to work ok so far. Enjoyed the video and got some alternate grip ideas from you that have helped me make some serious progress this week. Thanks!
Just can't figure out how the hell to get a good view of my first stroke at the bottom of my sideburns, hand, glasses, always something blocking my view so I more or less wing it till I can see the blade again!

Thanks, I'm glad it helped!
I know what you mean about the sideburn thing. One bad stroke with the razor and you can quickly make them crooked. In the video I had to make a quick decision on where I was to begin a sideburn -- so that was freeing in a way. I basically just set the razor down and went to it, though. It's not long after I begin shaving the left side of my face in the clip that I take an accidental chunk out of the new sideburn, I think. Ah well, it all it all worked out. Heh.

Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed the video! I especially like hearing how new shavers are using it as a guide for their own shaves. Since I uploaded it, a lot of people are messaging me on YouTube and asking tons of questions. I answer them all, but I also refer them to the SRP, since this place has a lot more knowledge than any one man could ever have.

Thanked: 363Dood.. I love this video, there are very few shave video's I like. The other being Willie's shave video (the Austrian dood who shaves at break neck speed) I didn't use this as a guide, but rather as a way to look at how much fun you can have shaving with a straight, plus drinking takes the edge off ( you not the razor) My very first as wellas great baber shave was at Truman's in NYC, unlimited drinks, so had about 4 pints before the shave, and I felt very relaxed, I'm sure a drink a or two, will just calm the nerves and make the experience that much more pleasurable. Afterall this is about pleasure and fun, otherwise buy a Mach3 and some canned goop and call it a day.
thanks man!
