This is something very important for me also to find out.

Is that enough or do you need something better when cutting and sanding bone or horn?

I've read from several sources that disagree: one claims it's poisonous whereas the other claims that was never proven. Of course, I am unable to locate those sources now.

When working with (spalted) wood, I wear a 3M dust mask which has a built-in filter. I think that is a lot better than the hospital-style masks, as those are mainly designed to prevent spittle contamination.

Does not the cig have a filter? The fire on the end is incinerating the bad stuff too!

How thick do you make the wedges? I'm just starting making scales. I've seen a few videos on making scales, even Charles Lewis'. The videos mention tapering the wedge, but none indicate the wedge thickness.

In one of his videos he shows that he uses digital calipers to measure the thickness of the part of the blade that he wants to stick out of the scales, then matches that thickness to the wedge. I've done it and it works like a charm.
