Thread: 10Pups restores a Reaper.

That's starting to look sweet! It's great when a razor first shows its "face" again wearing new scales.

This vid is the up close look at where I am at. I have some issues to deal with yet. Also some decisions to make.

I think on my Goldedge's the wedge is also just a spacer?

I looked at my ducks and they all seem to have either a really thin wedge or a moderately thin spacer - all plastic it appears. Since you're trying to be as close to the original as possible it would seem the wedge versus spacer question is guided by what the original piece is. That means sticking with the original geometry - then it's only a question of material. Personally I'd use the same geometry but maybe use ebony. …then again using a blood red spacer might be kinda cool too (death theme so add a bit of blood image).

Great idea to walk everyone through your process - no matter what we use ourselves for thought process or technique, it helps to see someone else's approach. Having those different ways in our heads sure helps out when a new problem pops up.

Thanks for looking guys. I will leave the geometry alone and I am still up in the air about using the old or making new. I have been sticking to using the old wedges and spacers but that was for a set of Satinedges. I love the idea of using red and I may make one to see what it looks like. I was thinking of a clear. Ghost spacer. More to think about while I continue with sanding the blade.

Wedges on mine are on average:

.052 on inside & .040 on outside

I have 5 that I measured so that is somewhat of a group....

After waiting for some replacement bolsters I have finally gotten to the end of this thread. Not sure where I left off so, I will boldly head forward from where I am. :<0) I thought twice about gluing in front of the camera and in the end I am glad I went ahead with it. As you will see this can be a lot of fun and leave you shaking your head wondering what happened.




The rest of the gluing did not go without complications. The open field Ducks went on without a hitch and as I grumbled about messing up on cam the bolster on the other end stuck before I got it placed. I had to peel it off and clean everything for a second try. Oh the things I do.......... I am cleaning everything up now and after hanging the Christmas lights there should be a post of the whole thing pinned up and ready for a hone.

Because of the foul language that automatically comes out of my mouth when the hammer connects with a finger , there will be no pinning vid :<0) Besides, better men than I have shown how to do this.

I was a little worn out by the time I got this pinned up so you may see some goo, fuzz, and finger prints in the pics :<0) I will take a few in better light soon. What doesn't show to well is the actual look of the dark grey translucent scales. It also has a dark red translucent wedge.













It is ready to go to the hones.
