Damn sharp Mike, and the Buck Bros razor in the stag scales is a dead match.
Yes sir, that did come out quite well. I really like it. And I agree, with some time, the brighter color will fade. But honestly I like it better. The brown really sets it off in my opinion
I'm going ahead with pine scales, I sprayed some matte clear on them after shaping and wiped them with 2k wet/dry. Didn't get it pinned or wedge made but the shape turned out like I wanted and I'll eventually get some better stuff. I made some scales once with cedar. The grain was small and colourful but the collars and pins just sunk in. If I was going to do it again I would pin with Babar collars or eyelets.
Been there, done that. soft scales, fragile ones. Those covered in epoxy.
Have to find something solid between the tang and the scales.

I like to do a water-based job on these with water-based paint pens/brush-tips.
I overdo it and wipe most away with a damp paper towel.
Get it like I like it and clear over.
Brown is an issue...Gonna pony-up and get a pricey brown. The cheap ones don't show up.
If you buy a set of the quality ones it's too expensive. Half the ones will dry-up.
Nice individual picks at hobbylobby. They just keep them locked-up in a case like the razors and blades at Walgreens. We all know how that deal goes.

Pretty pleased with the burn in of the images. My stitching sucks, but it's all tight..
Stabbed myself like a hundred times with the awl. Got blood all over the leather and knife, hehe.
So much fun to do things you don't normally try.
Assuming he has old eyes the 85 year old recipient should be happy with the thought behind the gift anyway..
