Ok, so I have the scales pretty much where I want em.
About .95 thick and up to a 2400 grit polish.
Going with brass wedge, washer, and pins I think.

Every time I have sealed in goldwash In the past, with either CA or varnish, it has lost its luster and gone sort of brownish.. I am tempted not to seal these at all, but figured I'd ask you folk if anyone has found something that seals goldwash without muting its gold effect?
Cheers.
Pin it up. Let the gold cure for a good long time. Lightly oil or perhaps wax. Done!
Yea, that's what I was thinking. I have some of that ren wax. That might be enough on this blackwood as it seems to be naturally pretty oily.
Last of a couple slices Mike T sent me last year actually. Looks like it's going to fit this Japanese blade quite well.
Wax sounds good , clear shellac, easily renewable unlike poly and CA.
A quick search, Cockrell & Bonner was a Drug Store in houston Texas in the beginning of 20th century, that said you had to be a Well appearing man to shop there.

I posted this last night or early this morning in the wrong thread. Thanks Tom for sending me the pm.
I had to catch up some. Great work B52 on the scales w/gold wash.
Martin, those saws are absolutely breathtaking. Fantastic work.
Now as far as me, just a lot of bs & outages. Good news is no inages!
Thanks Steve. Really nice score on that Maestro Livi group buy buddy!
How you making out on your own laser project?
A Maestro Livi group buy! :D
Who KNEW there was such a thing??
:)
I didn't,,, in time anyway, lol..
Well, adversely...I wouldn't. In any time! :D

I wish I could afford the trip to see him make one in person, let alone buy one of his blades.
I work for an Italian run dairy, but sadly don't get invited to the home base often(pronounced ever) lol..
So turning to the blade some tonight as I want the scale to dry some more before I sand it finer.
Figured maybe I could restore some of the tang stamp since this laser does seem to work well with dark materials. Using a close up of the tang compliments of that sweet looking red Razor I cleaned the image up in ms paint and tried to scale it down to fit the tang.

From this, to this.

Couldn't restore the 5072 as there just wasn't enough image to work with but once I clean this up and fill it with gold, might look ok.
No harm in trying.
Cheers.
WOW! You brought a LOT of that back! Very impressive! :tu
That laser is awesome.

I'm trying to make this $7 hunk of junk shave ready. if nothing else I can try to learn to hone on it, if I completely destroy it, no biggie. Attachment 245070
I'll bet a dollar to a dog turd that it's a Paki or C. H. Ina made razor like object. I bought a similar one for my 5 year old grandson/well at least the scales look identical/the blade was slightly different.
With that said, I've been wrong before and I'll be wrong again. :w
Really nice work B52! Just awesome............
Thanks Mike. I always wanted one but never had the bucks. Then I heard that the Mastro Livi Club was doing a group buy at a really good price & I'm a member. I had bought one before on eBay but the seller didn't send the COA with it because he lost it. He then tried to send me a pic of the COA, then a scan of it & I annulled that marriage. I'm glad I did. The one i got was a smokin' deal. I put the money aside from the one I returned & got the new one for not that much more.
And the laser, I've been busy with other crap. I just need get the right software & flash the Arduino. I'll be busy again Friday & Saturday & not by my choice. I want to get it going so bad. Once I figure that out, it will probably be easy. I've had lots of good idea's, like you.
The past 2 months, this is what I've been working on.
New shop and front porch.
40'x80' (1/2 will be my new retail gun shop. 1/2 machine/gunsmith shop)

Mama said since I got a new shop, she had to have a front porch! (Happy wife....):
Attachment 245096
All done, except for the finishing of the inside of the shop, which will be an ongoing...never ending progress!

Worked my arse off in waaay too much near rain forest temps.
Now is time to enjoy it and have a cold 1 or 13. :beer1:
Nice place, and sweet shop that shall be Aces.
Love the lower level garage under the house personally.
Going to be a sweet locale..
:tu
Thanks!
I done the garage underneath for 2 reasons. 1.) My taxes didn't go up for adding a garage (attached or detached). 2.) When I get old(er), I can turn that into a smaller shop and just walk downstairs in my slippers vs going out in the elements.
The location isn't too bad, for Illinois. I built the house (in '09) at the far north side of our 40 acres. No other houses to the north for 3 1/2 miles...with virtually no way to build that way either, since it is deep ravines and BiG timber. On our section (1 square mile) and the section across the road, there are a total of 4 homes, including mine. So, yeah...the locale is OK. ;)
I see a 1000 yd. Range then..yes!!
My newest find a henckels 50, looks to be a 6/8. Not much needed on this one just a little cleaning and a hone. My first henckels, heard many great things about these blades excited to use this one.
