Mike, that is looking better and better. That ol' hand work does eat up some hours, doesn't it! Just a super cool blade and so good you saved the scales, looking forward to seeing it back together.
Spent some time in the workshop for a quick clean up on a Union Cutlery Spike razor. It wasn't in too bad of shape, just in need of a good cleaning inside and out and the scales needed new paint in the logo. I hope metallic gold was appropriate :shrug: I think I saw one of these with gold letters before. It honed up pretty easy, and the nice thing about this one is there is hardly any hone wear at all, rare on these Spikes it seems.

After cleaning up the collars and under collars with 3M and a toothbrush, I removed the dents from the outer collars, and put the flange back in to the outer edge with the use of my Harbor freight, doming block.

Took a peek at the scales, and they look great so far.
Should be able to put it all back together, tomorrow.
:gwh:
The little Spike looks great, Tuzi! I acquired a minty one a while back.
Watch the spike on the strop! I use a Lipshaw exclusively. Wants to scratch the hangers!
So you got that block at HF? I need to get one of those, I've been trying all kinds of things to make washers.
This is my first attempt at restoring a blade. Got this Geo Wostenholm cheap off ebay to learn on. Cleaned it and am trying to hone it, which is kicking my butt. Never had a problem getting blades shave sharp but this is a concave blade and is not going well,

The Dapping Block doesn't 'make washers' it converts flat washers to domed washers. With that said, here's the link to HF's block;

Also here's the link to Charlie's video to punching out 'Thrust' washers/might work for other washers :shrug::
