It's probably because I'm such a Mastodon with this computer crap but I have a hell of a time finding anything here. With that said I finally found this about using CA for coating scales.

For me, the use of the thinnest CA is a must for the first coats. It soaks in a bit and then is a good base to sand off the nubbins. I did a lot of furniture rescue as a kid with my father. and the varnish was thinned for the first few coats. lightly sanded and then reapplied. Then the thicker varnish/Shellac would build up on the great base oats. I have an often used CA finished shave brush that has a lot of miles on it and no loss of finish or luster over the many years.
For the most beauty, sand and polish the wood with a "no-wax nor oil polish" till it gleams and the surface will look yards deep and have deep chatoyance/ cats' eye reflections. I use pumice powder with a little for that.
Shellac is a poor choice for scales and brushes! It will watermark badly. Poly varnish is becoming a good finish for scales
JMHO!

PS, I also recommend Glen's post!!:tu

Yep, Glen's post was what I used on my first few tries with CA. It got me started. I've changed a few details but its still a CA finish.

I am on a kick to end procrastination before the New Year arrives.
I brought 2 of my 5 created 7-razor sets to my shop to clean, polish, and strop in order to use them almost exclusively next year.
They get polished, Renwax, and 4 different Lipshaw panels.
40 on magical Lipshaw black, 40 on Neil Miller heavy bridle, 40 on Neil's lighter bridle, 40 on Neil's European Tallow-Tanned.
I will then take them home and bring back the other 3 sets......Unless I procrastinate more?

Procrastination is useful, it allows a person can put off what didn't get done yesterday till tomorrow.

True, but I seem to keep putting tomorrow's chores in front of yesterday's!
It's piling-up! ;)
