Repeated washing, soaking, and rolling, vinegar rinse, helps to loosen the weave and release dirt in the fibers.
Watch your rinse water, keep scrubbing and rolling until rinse water is clear.
Then polish a bevel to remove all the stria from the bevel, strop on the fire hose, if you see scratches on the polished bevel. Wash some more.

Mike, I appreciate the offer brother. If this venture is successful, I was planning to see if you wanted a strop as a (very) small thank you. Would be nice to get some feedback on it as well. Didn't want to count my chickens before they hatched though! If you need any bridle leather or hardware for ends, let me know. I think I've got some buffalo too. Both from an Amish bridle shop.
I don't have one, but I wonder if an air compressor would help. Blast the outside close up while rolling the fabric.
Seal one end of hose and stick the nossle in the other end...
Roll it while it is damp, not wet and hard. Roll it again when dry. Scrub with a stiff brush when wet.
Working on a Burl rubberset base that’s going to be matched with a babinga ferrule.
Like the way the 2piece design is looking, almost better than the onezy.

I did a much better job on the parting lines on this design.
Hit the base with a 20mm Forstner bit, the ferrule end with a 25mm, leaving enough inside to set the loft at 15-18mm deep.
It’s how I learn, trial and error,, heavy on the error,,
