Our cottage lot is about 150 feet deep from the road to the lake. There can be a 15°F difference and we have had rain at the lake, but not on the road. Water is a great weather moderator.

Don't forget the sink holes. This is around the corner from a friend's house.

Yep. The ground can just open up and swallow your house. It happens. In fact the name of the county, Alachua is a mixture of Spanish and the American Indian word Chua which means jug because a sink hole looks like a jug with no bottom turned upsidedown.
Jerry, some things have never made sense when it comes to dollars, years ago I was what some would call an avid bird hunter. I would take 6 weeks off every year to hunt in several states. But lost one eye and it went to hell, but anyway, I was asked what’s the cost f those quail and pheasants. Put in the freezer.
So let’s do the math, gun cabinet full of very nice guns,, my favs were browning Belgium’s in the upper grades, took 3 every time we left, 7-8 thousand, 4 dogs, upkeep for the year price at puppy from well know kennel, training and dog trailer, 15-18 thousand. Truck for hunting, ( ya had one just for that ) last one was 60k, permits to hunt 5 states 800, ammo plus the hundreds of hours at the range, 2-3 thousand, assorted gear for the conditions, 2 grand, fuel diners, and. Hotels for a 6 week trip, add up another 4 grand.
Oh let’s not forget the jewelry given to the wife to make my life easier for taking off. Sometimes t was thousands.
So an ounce of quail was around 9000 dollars. And I bet there’s lots of things we do that will never make sense to some, heck I’m not sure what your radio equipment costs, but I’m sure a phone call is cheaper
I get your point TC. Maybe I should put in a swimming pool. It could be cheaper. :rofl2:
I don't think that living your life and enjoying it can always be measured in monetary gains or losses. While you do need to be real about what your financial conditions and capabilities are, it shouldn't always dictate your happiness. This brings great misery and stress. However, if you always spend more than you bring in, it also creates the same adverse effect. Just pay attention and enjoy life! You can't take it with you!
My sentiments exactly John. Why knock yourself out if you can't enjoy it.
"Whoever loves money never has money enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with his income. This too is meaningless. As goods increase, so do those who consume them. And what benefit are they to the owner except to feast his eyes on them?
The sleep of a laborer is sweet, whether he eats little or much, but the abundance of a rich man permits him no sleep."
If it makes ya happy!
I think I will stick with the radios.
My main radio is 3,500.00, Amp is 2k and antenna/tower is 5k. That's not counting all the computer stuff and electrical to make things complete, maybe another 3.5k. But it still ain't what you guys spend.
Thanks! I feel better about my hobby now. :)
In the end analogy, it's all good!
Speaking of expensive hobbies, got this done a few days ago, I have a couple of shaves on it and find the blade profile isn’t my favorite for shaving though love the way the profile looks. Access to the heel during shaving is slightly limited compared to a none tapered straight where the toe is wider than the heal.
