That's the little one. I waited most of my career for the big one. Got it as a hiring gift at the last firm I worked for. As I say I have been fortunate!

PS.. let's let the thread get back on track ?
So I have Razorfeld's blade cleaned-up. Looks like the bevel will come in easily and will be nicer than the lost one. Took the steel collars out to the buffer with a pin-vise. Shiny!

The scales have been sanded and steel-wooled. Slathered with neetsfoot oil last night and will remain tonight.
Attachment 258845
If time permits, I will assemble all to-morrow.
Morley clover stamp came in the mail today, so while I was out getting stuff for dinner and doing prep, I started the scuff & buff. Tools of restoration:

I like those little purple pads. They speed the job up immensely. They key to not destroying anything in this process - that battery powered dremel. Much weaker than it's corded compatriots, and it has a low setting.
Attachment 258846
This is about where I stop with the purple 320 grit pads.
Attachment 258847
The result of hitting it with Chrom-ox and a cotton buffing wheel.
I'm not going for a mirror finish. I rarely do with vintage blades. The aim is to quickly knock off the majority of the pitting and get it cleaned up for the hones. Once the battery is charged (or dinner is done) I'll finish the cotton wheel buffing and it'll be off to the hones to make it shave again! That's not likely to happen tonight, but it's still an exciting prospect.
I haven't got it under the loupe yet, but this puppy is pretty sharp and the edge doesn't look too awful to the naked eye. I'm thinking a layer of tape and some 1K love and it'll be ready to shave in no time. Now where did I pack away that Norton 1k...?
That's looking good Tom, thanks for the update. Those scales will be nice and happy in an overnight neetsfoot soak. And, oh yeah, I need to get some CA gel for filling bug bites, thanks for reminding me.
Nice job on the Morley, Marshal. Them's good blades!
The sheen in the pictures may make it look better than it is, but not half bad for maybe 15 minute's work. Beats the stuffing out of hours of hand sanding to get to a similar place!
I agree, I like those blades. Slowly working my way toward a 7 day set. This makes number 2... :rofl2:
Edit: Nice looking resto you got in the works there Sharptonn. :bow :tu

going slowly...
i just need a more powerfull bench grinder, my 600W gets too hot, too early (about in a hour).
if someone has any bench grinder advise (from europeen source), i will appreciate.
Few more minutes with Chrome Ox paste and the dremel:

I think we're ready for the stones. I know where I'm starting, and where I'm ending. What I don't know is what I want to do in between. I guess that's a tomorrow problem though, I hear bed calling.
G nite Marshal. [emoji42]
Dang..!!!!
All kinds a good stuff going on, myself... Nice and slow. [emoji18] doing my best on what's left off this thing. Making it look nice, and hone right, has been something. Taken down to 400 now, it awaits the 600 greaseless.
Its nice to see the edge laying flat again.

Got the pits out of the spine, looks nice!

So I got my Geneva clauss cleaned, pin snugged up and honed. It really took a nice edge and cleaned up pretty well. I left some character because everything else was in too decent of shape to mess with it.
I only took this one up to 8k, really for one reason. Wanted to see how well my new stones and I are getting on. I'd say well edge is a mirror and no prep cold water shave was great.
Wonderful works fellas keep it up!
I have a cheap one that I bought new and it gets hot too. I think if you want to get some serious use out of them you need to spend big money on the name brand units. I have two and switch them back and forth and it is never an issue. That and I do mostly hand work so they see little use.
No worries, Bruv....
Read this thread in it's entirety. Then, you will know half of everything on American razors.
More info on Geneva Cutlery and Clauss than you might care to know as well!

So a test-fit on this thing looks pretty good. Closes to the inside a bit, but notsobad.

Mocked-up the top with a few little nuts and proceeded to pin the bottom....
Nobody seems to show how they juggle pins and multiple collars.
My way is to use an o-ring like a rubber band, remove the screw, and insert a rod.
I install the collars on one side, scotch tape them down, and use the rod to go through the tape. Do the same on the other side. That way, I can remove and reinstall my pin without disturbing anything as-sizing it. I wanted a bit too much of the bronze rod poking-out as I wanted to pile it up on the steel collars.
Attachment 258935Attachment 258936Attachment 258937
Since a pile of peening would be required for the desired effect, I annealed the ends of my sized rod to make it go easier.
Attachment 258938
I peen it with the tape on till close to the end and remove the tape and o-ring to continue.
Looks fine to me..
Attachment 258939
Same deal up top, turned out fine. The bronze will turn golden after a while and stand out even more.
Gentlemen, I give you Razorfeld's Rattler 2.0! :D
Attachment 258940Attachment 258941
Oh, my! Oh, my! Lust has erupted in the Razorfeld home. I have google eyes popping out of my head when I look at the pics. Shaving will take a leap forward in the staisfaction catagory.
That's terrific work Tom. There's so much to like about the razor and your detailed posts. Bravo! :tu
Nice work Tom, pack it well!
I just knew you could work faster, with the same results as usual.[emoji57]
Beautiful job,Tom. [emoji106]
Tom that is a great job! And thanks so much for the complete process with pics :tu
In the spirit of, "if you're working on em, post em....".....:p
I've been re-looking at this old Henckels 14 I've had lying around. Interesting blade, "G Hoppe" is marked on the reverse of the tang, just got it honed up, can't decide if I want to put a complete polish/restore on it, or leave it with some of it's nice age marks.
The scales look black, but they're actually a deep Burgundy colour.
Attachment 258942
Attachment 258943
Personally I don't see anything wrong with the razor!
If it ain't broke don't fix it. :tu
I think it would look great in a box with a Henckels 14 and a Hope 14 all lined up showing off together.
Yup a nice three razor box, leather bound with a glass top, they would look really nice together. I know where the other two are as well...
Where, Rez? :rofl2:
I also have a few 14's in plain black...Harrywally! Send me those scales!!!!
OH! Found THIS one?? Forgot I had it! :D
Attachment 258959
Could you carve me some scales for this one, Rez?
That is a beauty Tom. Would that be pre Filarmonica? Sure looks nice for such a rare razor. Has that ever been honed?
Yup - at Mike's razor meet, one of Andrew's (HarryWally) "unicorns" was a Henckels #14 carbon, and we all heard it calling to him, "HarryWally....take me, take me", so off it went with him.
Wolfpack did an amazing job restoring that one...real serious skills, was a beauty....scales and blade turned out like new.
Andrew...post a pic of that puppy!!! :rofl2:
Really !! "Forgot I had it." Attachment 258960
