I'm not very good at judging between the degree of grinds. This one is pretty hollow though and it's bellied.

Yeah I've been reading some stuff (but not very much yet) and part of it seems to conflict. I read some old posts by Neil Miller and even he said he didn't put that much faith in the sources he quoted. He was apparently quite a character Mr. Sears. From what I can tell it could be either and you're right Tom it may have been as you say. I think I've seen a few like that. It has a Sheffield look to me. Is it just me? It has that hump to the tang which makes it look W/B-ish to me. Maybe that's why I like it so much. I loves me Wade & Butchers.
Amendment to that last post. I was reading about the Henry Sears and the Packwood at the same time and got my stories crossed. Packwood was the one that I read about who was the character. Quite the showman and apparently a "flim flam man of great renown.
That's my next project

I want to proceed with caution on this one. I'm thinking this one I'm just going to clean up the blade without unpinning. The scales are in nice shape and straight with these nice floret collars which are all four intact and in good condition. I'm honestly a little nervous about taking them apart for fear of damaging them
Attachment 316531
Besides, there are no visible cracks and only maybe one or two tiny little bug bites which may not even be bug bites at all. I'm thinking maybe just some light sanding on the scales, working around the collars and concentrating on what I can do with the blade without disassembly.
And the finish begins,,

Went with high polish by hand on the cocobolo and beeswax due to the woods innate oiliness.
But am going Tung on the ebony and bubinga sets so that’ll take the rest of the week to set up..
That’s ok though, no haste when it comes to the finish. And all three woods have terrific grains.
Cheers gents.
Looking good! Which one's mine? :D
Lots simpler, finishing my finish. 3 coats done, steel-wooled and wiped-down. One more...

Paul, the Packwood looks like a gem.
B52, those bits and pieces are looking great, what size ammo is that?
Tom that is a marvellous looking table.
At the risk of sounding stupid , what are those? They look like handles for something. The blocks they screw into are throwing me off. Are those strop handles? BTW, my neighborhood used to be a tung Grove. There are still wild (or ferel) tung trees in the woods. They will be blooming soon. This sounds familiar. Have we had this conversation before?
??????????

None of your business, Paul. You don't want to know.
What you don't know cannot hurt you!! :rofl2:
That water based poly is great stuff, and I thought that table had an island, looks sweet!
The rounds used are Smith and Weston 44 specials compliments of outback. They come in at just slightly over .5 dia. at the lower brass. Looked alright so figured give er a go..
:tu
And yes, they will be bow strops when done Paul.
Amazing stuff....Going with the grain is an adventure here....
30 min's later it's dry to the touch!

Beautiful table, Tom.

Nice razor! I would like to get a razor with a nice spine stamp. I really like the one that says "I AM GOOD AND WILL SHAVE WELL".
My honing affliction is starting to subside. I still have four blades left to test, but it's coming along. I decided to take a break before I get back to improving edges and picked up a nice Fredrick faux frame back in faux tortoise horn.
It's a touch under 5/8 and in fairly good condition. One of the scales has a bit of a warp and a couple of bug bites, A little time with some 3M took off a lot of the black rust. Sanding started to get a bit more of the rust. I probably won't get it all, but it should turn out nice.

The collars were really thin and small...failed at saving them. It should still look good with replacements.
Thanks, Jerry, it has the strangest gear-drive and latches to put the leaf in or out!
Attachment 316588
I don't have one. Dammit!
wow, That is odd for a table. Normally I see slides. Cool. Do you see a name on it anywhere? Or did I miss that?
No. It's not that old. Looks like veneer on plywood. Some staples in the trusses.
I will work, I reckon. Will be a round table til Thanksgiving and through the Holidays. Back to round.
I figure the leaf and 2 of the 6 chairs will be in the attic til then.
No. He means this one.

Tom, table looks awesome.
No. Razor NOT for sale! :nono:
@JJ
Those Freddie's are some fine shavers, clean um up right, and their lookers, too.
Attachment 316590
This one either..
Attachment 316591
Ohhhhhh. I will have to do without a Northfield Rattler and console myself with a FBU Wosty! :(

Yep, I have another from Bouschie in black horn. Love the way it shaves. One day I'll come across a wider one to try (:hmmm: could that be RAD talk?).
There's still a chance to find one of those, Tom. But as American steel goes, the Northfield is a bit more rare. And as thin as the grind goes, its lucky to be in the condition its in. :tu
That's like saying ...I'm not buying anymore razors. :roflmao
I'm Full.......'Burp' ;)
Not very good pics and I forgot to get before pics, but...
To cleaned these up. took the two with the black scales apart for cleaning and a bit of sanding. The bone scales are very thin so I didn't want to mess too much with them. Just cleaned and tightened. I will see about getting these on the stones tonight.

Wade & Butcher, Special
Frederick Reynolds, The Celebrated, in bone
Fromm Special #72 in black.
The W&B will still need some time to correct the heal before honing. But the other two are ready.
Smile when you say that.
Attachment 316657
Okay so I got a little progress made on the Packwood.
Attachment 316654
Attachment 316655
Some light sanding... Well maybe not all that light: 220, 320, then jumped to 600, 800, 1000, 2000. After that a few minutes with the 3M on a rag.
Haven't really done anything with the scales except hit the collars with the 3M.
Attachment 316656
30-45 seconds each of rubbing and they look much better.
Not bad for a start
Takes me 6 months to do that....Done! :D
I like that Packwood just the way it is. :)
Yep, I love a Packwood. I'd hone it up an say done (still kinda suck at honing wedges, but you get my point :D)
