So Shaun you are correct, the wedge makes stropping a nightmare! Also the wedge is far to heavy making it super cumbersome to handle. Just shaved with it and it was close with a touch of razor burn which I take credit for do to the weight issue. Everything kept wanting to flop around. So this one will be disassembled and a new wedge made from something light maybe the brown horn I have?? But I'm gonna wait until I pick up micro fasteners first.

I am sorry that it did not work out for you. There are a couple of things that make me get crazy eyes, one is trying to strop a razor that is loose and the other is stropping a razor that is badly out of balance. I have had a few do overs. I had put nice bone scale with a lead wedge in this cut little Torrey hollow ground razor. That was wrong. It was way off for stropping and shaving. One shave and back to the bench. We learn the most from the tings we have to do over.
I agree, balance is the key to a easy handling straight.

I have been on a tangent about balance of late...
Would be nice if all balanced at some particular point!
In the real world and having razors with scale and blade-heavy characteristics, I have decided that the best equalizer is a tight pivot.
That! ;)
Take a vintage razor with original scales and balance it on your finger or whatever. Try a few and post results.

I've been starting with bone at 0.100. It thins a little as it gets worked but I doubt it thins very much.
