But it's not surprising for what the landlord hires. The duplex was recently re-painted and the painter painted over the faucets, Numbers on the buildings, the door bell buttons, the screen doors etc.

Here's the pics/I just took them:

I'd unscrewed the door bell (it was a black case with a white button) so that it could be masked off and painted around and put the screws in a small zip lock baggie and taped them bag to the mailbox (which I'd also removed) however the screws 'disappeared' and the landlord replaced them. Note that they are brass.

Here's the faucets and the dryer vent/both of which 'were' silver and had been masked off when the previous painter had done the work.

Oh yes! The weather proof faucet covers. The previous painter had removed them prior to painting.

Now! My front porch light needed replaced after the unit was painted and the land lord did the replacing. Funny. I thought that a new unit came with new attaching screws. Goes to show what I put up with. See the red circle and you'll see where he used the old screws that had been painted over.

My friend when you pay peanuts you get a tenant who happens to work for a painting contractor. The Land Lord told me --'Quote' "He save me $500"!

I removed the wooden house numbers and the land lord had the guy paint them the contrasting color and touch up behind them. The whole apartment looks like the great pumpkin/orange and brown. :gaah:

Sometimes you have to use the old screws because the ones it come with are too short. Happened to me dozens of times. The painting is a joke though and I'm pretty sure would not pass an inspection by the city here where I live, painted anything electrical is now a fire hazard.

Well I've taken this thread :OT long enough.

However I will end with that the Porch Light was AN Exact Duplicate of the original, he was just either lazy or wanted the new screws for further 'uses'.

There are many finishes for wood that is easy to apply and durable. CA is common, here is a video that someone else linked previously on the forum. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1L4-xoDINg4 You could also go with truoil, or turners wax, or some combination.

Yup. Great video Rez. This is the video that taught me how to do CA finishes. It really shows how easy it is to apply with a little patience.

Just finished up a brush using some Geezer wood. :) Just applied the first coat of Tried and True, Varnish oil.
