I am not saying don't do it, in the end it is yours and do as you wish.
I was only trying to give some insight,
part of why I enjoy vintage and hand made items are the imperfections that make them, well them, or unique.

I can see removing the wrapping, I tried hard to work around the piece of heat shrink like stuff on the tang of my bergischer lowe.
I could not, I removed it and I can tell you they cut it after it was applied.
There are now lines that look like scribe marks on it in the gold wash.
I am happy and that is what matters.

do what you feel you need to and enjoy it.

It's my Bergischer Löwe exactly that's making me think along those lines!

Spent quite valuable time trying to meticulously dry it after every use and one day I moved the black rubber to one side and rust/discoloration contemplated to move in! After all my effort.

Unlike you, I couldn't cut it out altogether because it's now hiding the affected area unfortunately. Too late. Now I just make sure to blow dry and move it back and forth very time.

Wondering if the Kamisori wrapping would do the same. Haven't read any complains, so suspected either it's a different kind of steel and/or maybe that wrapping is special.. Either way it doesn't look all that good. I dunno..

I get it and sorry to hear about the Bergischer Löwe,
many of us spend a lot of time keeping them in the best shape we can (all razors)
there may be a solid method to seal the rattan wrap but I will be of little help there,
my Kamisori has a wrap that is impregnated to the point that it is bonded to the shank.
To be honest I have not given a second thought to what it looks like under it.
It will likely be in place when one of my boys inherits it.

You can simply remove the wrap if you wish but as mentioned not getting it wet is an alternative

Correct, except in reverse The ura is the hard steel. You can see the sliver of steel on the cross section.

Mine came with no wrapping. I do like that there's no place for water to hide but there's not much to grab on to.
I've toyed with making a removable slip on handle that would grip well, but removable after the shave.

That's a brilliant idea. Would like to see what you come up with.

Did you ever have any luck coming up with an easily donned and doffed wrap or handle option? I would really like something like that for my Iwasaki wakamisori.

Have you guys considered using PlastDip for coating the handle?
