I think you did the right thing and would like to see photos when you finish. The thing to bear in mind about pitting is that you can't remove it - you can only remove good metal surrounding it. There comes a time when you have to accept when enough work has been done. Anything more probably needs equipment for a re-grind.
My service is good, fast and cheap. Select any two and discount the third.
