Maas polish on ivory?
I picked up another basic restoration project; an old Wade & Butcher with what appears to be yellowed ivory scales. They're extremely thin and fragile looking but theres no major cracks just a few tiny chips on the wedge end. Someone "scratched" their name into it (lightly) that i'd like to sand out and then clean them up with some polish. Any suggestions? I was hoping the Maas polish would work well at removing a bit of the yellowing but wasn't sure about on ivory.
(Sorry, pictures will come tonight when i get home)-Dana

Yes definitely a good "sealer" and protectant... I need to clean some yellowing first though.
Yeah i'll definitely get some photos tonight cause i'm anxious to get started cleaning this one up.
...and Maas is exactly that, a chemical cleaner and not an abrasive. Should i look into using something like SimiChrome or just micro mesh and a wax buff?-Dana

I have used a "Magic /Eraser /Sponge" and some of milady's fingernail buffs to good advantage when dealing with bone or the high priced stuff. Just for the really grubby stuff or a final buffing.

Thanked: 2027JMO, but when dealing with any natural animal product,(Ivory, Horn, Bone etc) less is always more.

I have a couple of bone scales that have the same looking stria. Or, I could be dead wrong.
