That is a very nice place. You pay by the square inch, I guess, so you can order any number of 1x6" pieces and they cost the same as a larger one you would have to cut down.

What type of plastic is this? If I had a belt sander I might take you up on your offer. That looks like it might make some really nice scales after it was polished.
Thanks for offering this! Too much stuff like this ends up in the trash or recycle bin when it could be used for something else as it is.

Why not PVC? It's cheap, freakinlgy chemical and mechanical resistant, and have a nice, uniform solid color. I can assure you it will outlast acrylic.

I'm not honsestly sure, as it predates me being in the office.

These pieces were a srcew up by a co-worker years ago, and for some reason they never got to getting rid of them. They were supposed to be cylindrical, to be used to check and adjust the piston depth of one of our tools. So, they are fairly rugged, as they have been used to beat metal into place in temperatures from +35c to -45c.

So, no idea what it is, but it takes a good beating. Have been meaning to try it for a set of scales, but haven't had the time yet.

Another great resource. The PVC sheet only comes in grey and white. They don't have opaque acrylic and the minimum order is $30 and line minimum $20.

HERE >>> Colored Plexiglass sign colors translucent plastic samples

You can look around for bigger and better pics of the color. They sell different sizes and I will tell you this is a deal to play with. You get a pile of color.

Hehehe, great idea. Too bad it looks like they drill a hole in each sample, otherwise you could get to pair of scales from each plate. They don't have opaque colors though, just black and white.

These are just under 6" and I get 2 pairs of duck scales out of each sample. The sample pack is solid colors. 2 different reds.

You want sheets I have other links.

Why not plain plexiglass, painted to what ever color of red you want and then sealed with 5 or 6 coats of varnish?
Easy, cheap, durable, and just about any color you can dream up.
