Thanked: 4823If the scales have no flex and that is why a spacer was used, as the blade moves through it's range of motion the scales are not moving with the taper in the tang creating tight and loose spots. If the tang has a taper, and a spacer is used when it gets to the fast part of the tang at the point where it should flex it pushes the pin. Repeat the process and the pin is always loose.

It should be noted that if the scales have no flex, then even with a spacer, modified pivot point washers will need to be utilized. Otherwise, because of the tang taper, when opening and closing the razor, pressure will be put on the scales to bend. This will create stress points leading to loose pins and possibly broken scales. Unless there is no tang taper. But most blades have tapered tangs.
