Thanked: 4206Yup, or alumilite. They are about the same cost I think. Clear cast epoxy resin might be stiffer, I find the alumilite a little too flexible when the scales thinned right down.

Thanked: 250Tom, those scales with the pictures in them are FANTASTIC! A set of scales with my Grampa's picture imbedded in them would be a treasure.

Thanked: 237Ok as promised I'll be posting this little project in here. I found this wade and butcher for barbers use. I didn't take my own pictures before I started working, but the ebay ones give you the same info I had to go on. Some of you may have stayed far, far away from this. But I saw the diamond in the rough.
So he accepted my offer and I received it today. Soaked in ballistol for a few hours then went to scrubbing. This is where I'm at now, going in for another soak. I'm going to blue the entire blade and make new scales, at some point.

Thanked: 4827One of the things that I like to do with blades that I intend on doing a patina finish on, is after a lot of steel wool and elbow grease, let it ride for a few days in the vibrating tumbler with walnut shell. It will get all the deep black out and leaves a nice finish for laying down Jax or bluing on.

Thanked: 48275 Lb. Metal Vibrator / Tumbler
Here is one, they don't turn they shake. The vibrating tub is fillled with media and it sits and vibrates and as it does everything inside rolls around. There are a ton of different media. There is a very long thread about it in the workshop sticky. It's not what you know, it's who you take fishing!
