    Default Chromium oxide questions

    Hi guys!

So I bought a wooden strop and a chromium oxide bar. I've seen on the internet people warning the strop on success tops and rubbing the chromium oxide bar on it. Is it the right way to apply bar/solid chromium oxide? Also, after you're finished stropping, do you clean the strop of the chromium oxide? Sorry for the newbie questions!

Once you put chromium oxide on a porous surface it will always have some amount of CrOx on it, there is no way to really clean it. However you need to keep it from getting dust and contaminants on it. There are a few ways, I wrap mine in paper, you could keep it in a cupboard, or make a fancy case for it.

Keep out inside the under sink cabinet? Should I wrap it in saran?

Cut a small hole, in the toe end of a over the knee tube sock.
Put the sock over the strop, so the ring you hang it from, comes thru the hole in the sock. Then hang it on the back of a door or something.

    Voila..!!

    My bad.
You just rub it on the strop, like a crayon.
I'd highly recommend that you look in the library here. Everything you want to know on the subject is there, its a bit much for me to explain at the moment.

I have a paddle strop that is duel sided, scrub leather on one side treated with a .5 CrOx crayon and the other side is oil tanned treated with .25 diamaond paste so with that said should I keep this covered when not in use, currently just have it hanging on a hook in the bathroom

Nice setup, yeah paddle strop that's the name (sorry ESL here). Mine is double sided to do in using chrome oxide on the rougher side and nothing on the smoother side. Thanks for sharing!
