So after 8 hours I checked my blade. Looks ok. No serious improvements yet. I'm guessing it'll definitely take at least 36 hours. I'll keep you posted.

Thanked: 8My replacement tumbler from Harbor Freight didn't even make it one day before breaking.
So I'd say stay way from them. They aren't worth the trouble and Midway's delivery time is superior.

ACK! A tumbler! I can buy one from Cabelas for free! I got points to spend!
<--runs to Cabelas.com to check prices.
This one looks like a fair deal, and has pretty good reviews:

24 hours
My observations so far:
my blade has been going for 24 hours and really, it only looks slightly better than it did when I threw it in. I am thinking that the walnut media really is only good for strictly "cleaning". That means rust, patina, etc. However it hasn't done much in terms of the finish on the blade besides shine it slightly. To get out any scratches I will now do the corn cob loaded with polish. I mean, the blade I am using wasn't "dirty" to begin with, so hopefully this will do the trick. Am I right Glen in that the walnut is not supposed to take out any scratches?
So here is the blade anyhow. Slightly shinier. I am loading the corn cob now. The polish I have says to let it load for 4 minutes. I'll probably let it go longer than that, but not 24 hours. My polish is more of a liquid, which I hope will work still. I can see it is already mixing well. Anyway, here are pics. I will add the blade shortly then report back later.Last edited by Philadelph; 03-19-2008 at 08:01 PM.

I left the blade in the walnut until it left a nice satin finish mine was 36 hours on the first blade and about the same on the second one...
The walnut should smooth up that finish and even it out...
That one looks as though there are some 220 grit or so scratches still pretty deep in there.....
