That's the one and it is listed at the store for $59.99 but you are right if your store carries it and you take in that picture in the link they will sell it at $39.99.
And at that it is a good deal.

i started 4 razors in "01/2 pumice" had some laying about and found that after 4 hours there was no discernible damage from the blades striking one another. but the blades have migrated to the same area and are slowly circling the bowl, checked at 2,4,6,8,10 hours so far. there seems to generally be media between the blades... so it is working OK but it will take a while to really polish then up. i think the multiple blades slow the effectiveness of the media...
after 12 hours I'm going to place these blades and the cracked and chipped ones into some fresh "tuffnut" (walnut shells treated with jewelers rouge) and then left them swirl altogether over night.

    pictures later!
    Be just and fear not.

I'm glad I was wrong about there being blade damage with this method. Now to go dig my tumbler out of the dark corner of my shop and see exactly how dirty my media is.

I have another question (yep, another) regarding the engraving you had on your blade gssixgun. Is there any noticeable difference it it after being put into the tumbler? I get really nervous with engravings when I'm hand sanding. In the pics it looks fine, but I'm not sure how deep it was to start with.

This was a real etch actually in the steel, not one of those on the steel things.
I used this razor for that reason, if I had used the traditional sand and buff method the etch would have been lost or at least diminished....
I don't know how else to put this, but the razor looks brand F'n new
The only way anyone would know it's not, is if it was outside the scales, and you could see the wear marks from opening and closing it...
Other than actual metal wear ie: hone or pivot wear I think you are going to be very surprised with the results....
I just moved Razor #2 from walnut to corn cob after 36 hours again, it looked as though the walnut was done doing it's work...
This razor still had very, very, faint staining at the toe, we'll see if that comes out now.... Keep in mind it was pretty bad to start with...

Any advantage to a vibratory tumbler over the simpler one? What about the walnut shells?....12 vs 24 ?

This seems almost too good to be true.

    Thanks!

By simpler do you mean rotary????
If so, the ones we are talking about here are much gentler, and actually moves the media more effectively for dri-polishing.....
The 24 grit looks about the same as the case cleaning polish...

Again try it if you have one, and please let everyone know how it went

Glen, I want to thank you so much for sharing what I don't think can be described in any other way than being a breakthrough. This is just awesome. I'm going to be putting in an order for this set up this week. I think it's surprisingly inexpensive.

Really though, you're sharing this from the get go in an "open source" way that can benefit so many of us. I envision so many cool vintage razors that will get new life that otherwise would be sitting in all of our "get to it when I have time" drawers.

    Thank you thank you!!!!

I imagine a rotary tumbler would be too aggressive for this kind of application. From what I've read about rock tumbling, a rotary tumbler will round off the rocks while a vibratory tumbler maintains the same basic shape. If you stuck a blade into a rotary tumbler you might get too much wear on the corners/edges.

But hey, if you have a rotary lying around that'll fit a blade, throw a 'lost cause' in there and report back!
