There we go!!!! Thanks Jim for the info on the Flitz..... Keep us up dated on the multiple blades...That seems to be the big question right now on this thread...

PS: I am getting ready to put the finish on a set of Purpleheart scales for the Shuredge that ya sent me, I hope to be shaving with that one by the weekend.... Thanks again... G

Yes black beauty is a blasting media but I am using a fine 20/40 mix, not the finest but next to it and it is not hurting the metal at all.
And I just added some Maas to some corn cob media and it took it fine, I have a razor in there now and it seems to be working.

This is as expensive as RAD or HAD or SAD, maybe should be know as VCAB or BTAD?

Anyway I've managed to accumulate three of then this week and the one from Midway was by far the best value. However it is the noisiest also but nothing that putting in the garage won't cure which is where it is anyway. So I wouldn't worry too much about noise you guys who are trying to decide if you want to try this. Plus the shipment from Midway arrived in 2 days and that was UPS ground. Of course I only live a few hundred miles from them but still great service.

gssixgun (my mistake)...you got me convinced as well...I got a tumbler, media, and polish on the way from midway...that'll make the job of cleaning 45 newly acquired razors easier on my hands...props to you for a great experiment and something that will set a new trend.

A side note here for all the non-gun nutz Midway USA has some of the best customer service I have ever run across, been using them for years...

The real thanks should go to gssixxgun who got this whole thing started.
I just came in on it after he told us all how to do it.
But I am having fun with it and now I just need to keep my hands out of the media and let it work, but I seem to want to check it constantly just for the pure fun of this whole experiment.
Good luck to you and anybody else who joins in, I think we can all learn a lot from each other from this endeavor.

Forgot to add that the shipment from Midway came in one day not two. And I agree their customer service is the best I've witnessed in years if not ever.

Made a post earlier but must not have hir the post button. I have 5 blades going and am working on a couple of things. One trying to partition off a tumbler to take several blades and also working on a stacking method that if it works means that I can have several mediums going at once and instead of buying several tumblers I will only need to buy several Tupperware containers which would be much cheaper. Will be out of town Friday through Tuesday for my Birthday so will post next week on the results.

Glen (or anyone else), what is the different between walnut and corncob media? I can't find gun shops around so I'm gonna order from midway, but two 7lb. bags in addition to the tumbler is like $19 to ship. Do I need both? I'm thinking, why not just load up the corn cob and do that from the get go? Maybe leave it in longer? Would that work out the same?

    Default Update:::::

OK a lot of questions are coming up on this:
Let me try and answer some of them..
Watch: the Pre-Treated Media it will be treated with Brass cleaner that can contain Ammonia..... I don't know how it will react with Steel....
Ask the folks at Midway if their media is pre-treated they know their products...

I used the RCBS brand fromula 1(walnut) and formula 2 (corn cob)
I don't know if you can skip the walnut shells it is kinda like asking if you could skip the 400-800 grit paper and just start with 1000 grit.. I did this first razor step, by cautious step, just to see what would happen..
The second razor is spinning right now and it started way worse off then the first. I used some 220 grit paper to loosen up the rust
(10 minutes) and tossed it in. I just checked it and it is coming clean..

Lets all keep each other updated on this thread as we learn together...

I forgot all about it but black beauty is a friable aggregate so it will disintegrate as it tumbles on itself. I haven't noticed much yet but thought I should pass that on.
