Carbon fibre scales im sure would look cool as hell but I would be concerned with the weight balance as carbon fibre is pretty much as light as plastic.

I should be working on these by Friday or Saturday of this week. Obviously pictures will follow. I'm not really worried about the weight issue. Husky- if and when I start selling these, I'll post it here probably. Thanks for the interest!

First round!
Ok, so I got the carbon fiber yesterday and proceeded to make two sets of scales. This stuff really was a monster to work with. Not knowing exactly how tools would respond I tried a few different things. I broke a scroll saw blade, went to dremel cut-off discs and broke 2. Tried a bandsaw, dulled the blade immediately. Finally I went to the dremel reinforced cut off disc which worked alright. It got chipped to hell but did the job... however awkwardly. Anyway, I'm gonna try to get one of those diamond or carbide cutting discs which would probably be my best option as of now. The CF isn't as light as expected and is strong as HELL! The dust as mentioned is very fine and staining, so I did this in the garage with the door up and the shop vac running right at the point of contact at all times. Had the full get-up of mask, gloves, eye goggles, long sleeves, etc.
After the initial cutting, the sanding was cool. It takes a while, but works nicely. Here are the scales in a MOCK-UP. These aren't pinned yet as I'm exploring (or trying to) silver adjustable torx pins somehow. The first is a member's EA Berg that he wanted rescaled. Acrylic spacer. He really wants the torx pins, so I'm trying to figure that out easily. The more I try the better the brass looks lol. Second is a set I did for myself. Three pins, which I thought would be cool. CF spacer. This blade might not be the one I end up using since it is WAAAAY out of line. The blade basically points to the side no matter what. I'll see what happens when I finish it.
So here they are. Pics are just rushed so I could post this. Anyone interested in having some made, contact me. I'll be away between 4/11 and June on tour so can't doing anything during that time, but can get back to work as soon as I get back (and can have a list in the mean time!). Thanks!

They look really good. When I did some I cut the forms out with a router with carbide bit,but it made such a mess i swore not to do them again, but those really look nice, the pattern is also a lot nicer than I remember on the material I got.Best regards Gary
