I am making Carbon Fiber Scales!
So I have been thinking about this for a while, and will actually put into place tomorrow my idea of making carbon fiber scales. Hopefully lol. Supposedly there's a "shortage" of Carbon Fiber. So I hope I can get it tomorrow. Anyway, if so, I will let everyone know my progress and I'll post pics, etc. Depending on how it goes, I may start selling them steadily. Wish me luck!!!

Thanked: 335Good luck, that stuff is a bear to work with. My uncles made some molds for manufacturing some small parts and once the parts were made had to drill several holes in each piece. They set up a CNC mill to drill the holes with carbide tooling and got essentially no where. They had to get diamond tooling for drilling the holes and those bits didn't last that long. This is some tough stuff.
best of luck

Thanked: 150Don't breathe the fumes. Nor the dust if you sand them.
I'm sure you already knew that but it never hurts to reiterate safety precautions.

Just letting everyone know: I know the safety steps that come with this... I am prepared. Thanks though!

If you manage to make some, I'd love to see pics of them. I imagine they'll be pretty light. Would that affect the balance very much?

Carbon fibre looks cool as hell for scales. I got some a while ago and made some scales with it. I found it to be the perfect material for my smaller 4/8 and 5/8 razors; it produces some nice low-profile scales.
Here's some pix
