D.C. Halsted w/ Yougottaguess wood scales
Here we have a Halsted 7/8 that really needed a good scrubbing up. It was nearly black at the start. Brass spacer and pins. Finish is 8 coats of CA. I ain't gonna say what the scales are..... you tell me....
I still have a bit of polishing to do to the pins and spacer, then it's going up for sale.

The wood looks like cypress but i am not good with terrestrial things, my skills lay with the marine environs. What i am wondering is how you clean up the blades so nicely without sanding off the stamp on the tang. I have a M. J. Higgins that needs a similar treatment.

Bug infested olive wood? Or bug infested sycamore, maple or birch?
No matter what, you always seem to come across some very cool wood. Do you walk through the woods and just pick these up off of the ground, or do you have a cool sawmill nearby?

Thanked: 351Ok, I scratched my head a bit on this one but I'm perdy durn sure that them thaere be certifiable chip board scales. If on the other hand it should turn out that I need my eyes examined and a new eyeglass prescription filled, then please accept my humblest apologies. It wouldn't be the first time I've shot off my keyboard without being sure of the answer...
Uhh... I had to edit my answer, the other possibility that comes to mind is that laminate beam stuff.... not sure of the trade names, but it's used as a replacement for fir joists/beams in construction.

Thanked: 0Yup looks like press board. Least that is what we call it here in Jersey. Usually used as a first coat on the exterior to homes, and in I beams.
