Sorry to necro an old thread and ask a dumb question but I'm curious. I've been spoiled by using brass pins that already have a head at one end, so I only worry about the other end to peen. How do you fasten the first side when using brass rod?

The best way is to make a Pinning block with a 1/16-3/32 hole in it and peen the end of the pin there first that way you are starting out the same as factory....
You could also use a bench vise to do the same thing but it is not quite as exact...
I was going to do a illustrated guide on how to make one for razors but just haven't had the time yet...
You can find the info in the Knife forums using Google search "Pinning Block" and just re-size for razors....

i found the nickel rod from Texas Knife makers supply to be a little oversized (had to file it down to go into the washers) any body else had this problem?

It does seem to be a TAD bit bigger.
