    Default Apartment workshop

Here's one for the poor bastards (like me) living in apartments:

That's right. It's a closet off the patio.

I have problems with organization as a concept...

Anyway here's what I'm working with:

    Standard issue mutli-speed dremel
    Cordless drill
    Electric jig saw
    Coping saw
    Jeweler's saw
    Small ball-peen hammer
    3lb mini-sledge, used as a jeweler's anvil
Vice grips, pliers, rivet shears, etc.
1 Hardwood dishing stump with 6", 3" and 1" dishes.
I big-ass Harbor Freight vice mostly used as an anvil.
Tiny stuff like dremel bits, washers, and small but important hand tools go in the set of drawers propped up on the back wall.

    Not pictured in this photo:
    - Harbor Freight throatless shears (currently clamped to the side of the dining room table)
    - cupric chloride etching tank (stashed in the downstairs bathroom), - hand torch, which I need to get another bottle for.
    - sand casting flasks, 50lb of casting sand, 1 size 6 graphite crucible, various stainless steel containers sourced from Target & Walmart that have done duty as smelting crucibles.
    - homemade propane fired foundry rig (had to leave this at a guy's house after some drama cropped up. Oh well, I can always make another one)
    - a toolbox full of leatherworking tools and a bin full of scrap leather (currently stashed in the back bedroom)
    - my hones (currently hanging out on the coffee table)

Random crap I've made with this rig:

    Astrolabe parts
    Brass bells
    Decorative hair pins
    cast aluminum casting flask parts
    Brass and aluminum ingots
    Costume jewelery (mostly steampunk stuff)
    Belt buckles
Reenactment-grade reproductions of various Roman military kit
    armor
Oh yeah, I've also cleaned up a few straight razors.

Think I'm blessed with an understanding wife or what?

Microfasteners, sandpaper from 400 to 2000 grit, Dremel with red compound, Maas, electrical tape, a small file, gloves, a towel so the wife doesn't kill me, and an ugly wooden block with magnets inside it to hold my blades.

Actually, some n00b shops aren't even this well equipped. For example I'm jealous of your Maas. I can't source it anywhere locally. :/

I wish I had the set up some of you have with full pegboards, power everything and table everything.

I live in a 600 sq ft apartment in NYC and my "shop" is the living room. ALL my tools and equipment MUST fit in a 36 inch toolbox stuffed in the back of the hallway closet per SWMBO. The only power tools I have are an old drill and a dremel.

You should hear the fights I have with the wife over sawdust all over the place.

All that aside, IT'S WHAT I GOT AND I LOVE IT!!!

Sounds like my "workshop". I do the sanding in the bathtub though.

    Chris L,
I hope that shelf is stronger than it looks. I'd hate to see that compressor come crashing down and crushing you and/or your grinder.
