The razor looks great Korndog! cool filework design!
So...as for these super secret psa sanding discs...they are for rotary tools?
I have an Eliminator Geared Rotary Air Sander for automotive body/paint - 8" psa pad
I have Rotary & a RO Sanders for woodwork - 5" psa pads
All work great and I have always wanted a flat surface, interchangable adhesive sander bit for my rotary tools.
The snap on rotary tool sanding discs are good, but still have the metal ring in the center. I've thought about making my own, and stamping mini discs out of psa abrasives, but I could never think up an appropriate backing pad capable of withstanding rotary type rpm's and mounting to a rotary sized shank.
I would appreciate more info on these - or are they to remain secret. (or from the sound of it, are they something that is no longer available?)
how many fiber wheels, and bristle discs were sacraficed to this razor?

Good idea Randy, Thanks!
Thick leather with a contersunk hole to bury the screw of a 1/8 mandrel. It would be flexible, and would probably hold up to the rpm - psa should adhere... I'll give it a try later today...
I am still interested in hearing about the discs discussed earlier in the thread if that info is available. thanks.

I went through 1 1/2 tan fiber wheels and about 10 sanding discs of assorted grits. These are all 1" btw.

Thanks for posting a pic of these larry!
I found a couple of places that sell them (discount-tools.com is the cheapest that I found)
the places that I found only had discs ranging from 60grit to 320grit, nothing finer.
For now I think I will just punch some out of existing discs that I already have, but I am also looking at getting some Micro-Mesh since grit ranges are from 60µ - 1µ. (these sheets may be good for honing too!)
I see that you have a 15µ adhesive disc backing pictured, any idea where these come from?
Once I get these then all I will need is about $50 worth of radial/bristle discs from Bill and I should be golden!
Sorry for highjacking your post, I just got excited when I heard of these, and saw how good a job you were able to do with them!
Thanks!
Zak

Thanked: 2209The leather holds up just fine. I have used it. The best leather is from a weight lifters belt. Really thick stuff.

I'll make a few from some scrap 1/8 handamerican leather that I have and maybe use 2 per mandrel.
I will definately be using these for motorcycle parts, challenger / barracuda parts, razors, knifes, tools and anything else I can think of.
maybe someone will go extreme, and polish an entire blade like the edge - down to an .05µ with scratches well below the human visual threshold...

You can get sheet leather from handamerican.com for about $12 a square foot.

A good whack on the unsharpened end easily punched the sharpened side through a stack of 6 psa discs - I also used it to cut out about 20 - 1" discs of leather.
Now I need to get busy finding some more nasty scratched up, tarnished razors so I can put all of this new stuff into use!
