Thanked: 13245Ern ATOR on the bench today
So I got back from Colorado yesterday and decided that I was going to work a razor for myself as I got the shop back up and running...
I snagged this one off e-bay before I left
http://straightrazorpalace.com/aucti...-bay-snag.html
Here are some more pics off the bench..
The first two show the staining on the blade faces, and the kinda odd angle in the original scales...
Never noticed that in other ATOR's I have had here...
Here are a few of the razor broken down, keep an eye at the spine, this razor is just not showing any hone wear on there...
The top ridge is a bit worse then the blade faces for corrosion as you can see here...
These are after polishing on the buffers and the new rough out scales, I am going to use... The acylic is called Pea**** and you can't see it yet but there is quite a bit of flash that is going to come out when I finish with the sanding & polishing on them...
I went to a satin gloss on the metal, pretty much excatly how they look in NOS condition... Of course there was no problem keeping all the edges and stamps sharp as there was no deep pitting present...

I've got two in the apt now, and both have that curve to the scales...
Anyway, yours cleaned up nicely!

Thanked: 13245Finished up and going to the hones...
So the Wifey gave me the Pea**** Ornament to pose with the new razor
Although you can barely see if in the pic the scales are not just Amber and Black there are flashes on Green and Purple throughout also... All Nickel Silver and SS hardware and a Black acrylic wedge...
The scales are actually translucent you can see the razor in there when the light hits it...
This one is going to get a Charnley Forest final finish, that is my new CF in the background just under 8 inches long and 2 inches wide this will only be the 4th razor to go across this stone...So far I am pretty impressed with it...

I suspect he’s referring to some other “odd angle” or curve in the scales, because all original ERN ATOR scales have that “slick” curve design. I suspect because of the shape of the blade or the position of the “humped” tang with respect to the spine.
There’s at least one photo in the SRP Razor database.
Incidentally, most (if not all) ATOR razors have the model number stamped on the tang, the same number is also molded on the inside of the scales. The 6/8th model having the numbers “G.M. 142302 68”, and the 5/8th model having the numbers “G.M. 142302 58”.
It is a shame about the scales; it would have been nice to have originals preserved. But I must admit, the blade is restored close to original considering the tarnishing it had.

DUDE ! New razor, new stone . Must be Xmas
Awesome job G man. Enjoy
btw, any chance of a close up on the acrylic ?The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

What a transformation, you make it look easy! When I saw the original thread that you'd just bought that Ator I really didnt think much of it. Now the blade itself looks like NOS with no hone wear and those new scales look sweet. Enjoy your new razor!
