Why is it that the American society thinks that their award is the one and only means of discerning such titles???! It strikes me as just a little arrogant.

The man has certainly a great example of a rags to riches self made man, He may not be all that rich financally, but for a man of limited schooling, he sure has a lot of skill.

It would take me a while longer to obtain the proficiency of that chap...But I already am one of the chosen few...Who have the ability to make a decent knife...Not a brilliant knife, but better than many a shop bought one.

to get the rating ABS JS takes at least 2 years (atending an ABS school cuts a year off) std is 3 years then you can test to see if you pass

then in another 2 years you can test for MS but most cant pass the ranks that quick

jsut like any guild tho you have yearly dues to pay also
there are lots of makers that are top notch that do not have the rating

the best part of the rating is as a web buyer you can say JS means at least X amount of quality and MS = better fit and finish(so long as that maker doesnot slack off as they get older )
