    Basically, it's rotted wood. Mostly from the part of the tree that was below ground level. At least that is what it is as relayed to me from other knife makers. It has great figure and was once considered useless because it is so soft. Now that the stuff can be stabilized, it has found its way into a ton of new uses. Knife handles being one of them. Stabilization involves putting the wood in a heated vacuum chamber using polymers and such to keep it from warping or shrinking ever again.

    Bill you gonna restore/make any wedges larger than 8/8 with this or any other woods??

    like the curly better.
